Hello all,

Just wanted to let you know about the below, it isn’t finance related but we have been advised of it so though best to pass it on:

 

‘The fraudster attempts to purchase the goods using a debit card. They enter their PIN into the card machine which causes an alert asking the staff member to call for authorisation. At this point the fraudster states that this has happened before, they pretend to call the number and then gives the staff member what they believe to be the authorisation number. When the staff member enters this authorisation number into the card machine it will authorise the transaction – this is because any number entered into the machine will authorise. The fraudster can then leave the store with the goods, receipt, warranty without paying for the goods.
